BASEBALL

Dominican Republic's favourite sport

The "juego de la pelota" for the Dominican people is more than a sport. It is passion, love, hope and unity.
Every Dominican has his own favorite team. There are 6 professional teams in the League: the Toros dell'Est, the Leones dell'Escogito, the Estrellas Orientales, the Aguilas Cibaeña, the Gigantes del Cibao and the Tigres del Licey.
For young people, baseball is not just a sport but represents the dream of a better future. Many players of the Dominican baseball league then joined the US major league.

We remember Juan Marichal, pitcher of the San Francisco Giants, in 1983, and Pedro Martínez, pitcher of the Boston Red Sox in 2015, for being the greatest pride of national baseball. Two Dominican players admitted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, a baseball museum located in Cooperstown, New York.

The game of baseball in the Dominican Republic was made official in 1955, with the creation of the Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) and joining the MLB. The season starts from mid-October and ends in late January. The matches take place in the largest stadiums in the country. They are not just sporting events, but real parties. If you are in the Dominican Republic during the sporting season, do not hesitate to buy a ticket and experience a unique and characteristic emotion.
